Odisha: To facilitate industries, government speeds up land acquisition
The state government has fast-tracked land acquisition for major industrial and infrastructure projects. In the past one month, it has initiated the process of acquiring land for two mega projects.
While the government has assigned Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Idco) to acquire around 3,320 acres for a petrochemicals complex to be set up by Haldia Petrochemicals Limited in Balasore, it gave the nod to Bhadrak district administration to acquire 274 acres for a commercial airstrip by Dhamra Port Company Limited in Dhamra. It would be the first airstrip in north Odisha.
The idea behind land bank is to provide ready-to-use land to investors. Because of land bank, investors, especially small and medium industries, are getting land without much hassle. They can acquire land by completing the formalities and paying the premium.
Land bank scheme apart, the state government has been creating sector-specific clusters like Infovalley near Bhubaneswar, food processing park in Khurda, Deras sea food park in Khurda, petroleum chemicals and petrochemicals investment region (PCPIR) in Paradip, national investment manufacturing zone (NIMZ) in Kalingnagar and an aluminium park in Angul to facilitate downstream industries.
